New term starts on Monday 2nd September

Concentus is always happy to welcome new members to its ranks. If you think that singing is something you want to start, or return to, and are undecided about what sort of group you want to join, then why not give us a go? Rehearsals are on a Monday night, starting at 7:15, at Willingdon Community School in Broad Road, Willingdon, BN20 9QX.

Come along to meet a few of us, with no obligation. Should you like what you experience, a short voice test will be undertaken to assess which range most suits your voice. Fees are on a per term basis. For more details, please call 01323 9127700 or email info@concentus-sings.com.

Our choir isn't just about singing....

What happens when you join our choir? Well, apart from the obvious bits like attending rehearsals, learning a full programme to sing at concerts, getting kitted out in the uniform and so on….what else could there be?

Well…. You become part of a whole new family of people who love to do things together, outside of the choir setting, in smaller groups - like walking on the downs, painting, dancing, holidays…. to name but a few; the choir itself organises theatre trips, line dancing, meals out and picnics. You might also get to sing in a big theatre, with some big names; you might get to perform in a local music festival……we’ve got all sorts going on if you want to join in.

If you’re looking for a choir to join, come and find us for a whole new set of opportunities……. including the singing of course! Your Monday nights may never be the same again!

Charity News

Every year, before we start our vocal exercises at the beginning of the first rehearsal of the year, we announce our chosen beneficiary for the forthcoming programme of performances and events.  Choir members with an interest in a particular organisation, through personal experience, volunteering or choice, nominate their favourite local charity to whom our performance collection proceeds and other donations will go to at the end of the year.  All our suggestions are put into a “hat” and one is selected at random, the whole process being keenly overseen by a witness (inevitably with a camera running!).

For 2023 Gill Chapple, who has been with Concentus since 2017, nominated Chestnut Tree House and theirs was the name pulled out of the hat at the beginning of the year;  Gill has been a volunteer fundraiser for them since 2011.

Chestnut Tree House is a Children’s Hospice providing care for children and young people with life-limiting conditions in Sussex and South East Hampshire.  The choir not only donated retiring collection funds from its summer and Christmas performances but, with Gill organising it every week at rehearsals, ran a second-hand book and puzzle stall; they also held a cake sale at their two all day rehearsals prior to performances.  All of this led to a grand total of £2604.23 being collected.  Rehearsal time was given over to Jayne Todd from Chestnut Tree House to give her thanks and to accept the cheque from Adrian White, Musical Director, who presented it on behalf of the choir (pictured) on a recent Monday evening before rehearsals.
